One of my questions has to do with "Blessings" and the spoken word. It is my understanding that once a word was spoken it couldn't be taken back... it became a 'something.'
In our culture today, deceit could be used to nullify a promise... a 'scam'...
I've read also that in the middle-eastern cultures TODAY, a blessing spoken cannot be taken back.
I'm curious on your thoughts about this. For example, a word spoken in anger might be forgiven, but the word is out there... probably not forgotten. A promise hastily given is often 'Kings-Xed.' Have we lost something in our culture today? Go to the courts and get the 'word' removed?
I always wanted to say to Isaac, "Why didn't you say.. 'Oophs, you tricked me, I take it back.'" Maybe I'm learning that 'words' cannot be taken back.
Your thoughts? History on this?
Interesting thoughts about the impact of our words. I think of the saying "sticks and stones can break my bones, but words can never hurt me." Not true.
Our culture allows for "oophs," and taking things back. The good side of that is that it gives room for admit of failure and hopeful forgiveness.
I don't know how to make the "Sunday School class" label change to "Denise" when I post a note or comment. Still learning.
